Brix Smith-Start's green packing tips

Holidaymakers use less than a fifth of the clothes, shoes and accessories we pack to take away.

So claims a report from Thomson's sustainable tourism initiative Holidays Forever who've enlisted fashion expert Brix Smith-Start to show us how we can lighten our loads this summer.

Brix says we spend up to three days packing yet use only 16 per cent of the items in our suitcases.

And all that unnecessary weight is a big contributor to the build up of C02  because planes use extra fuel to carry our overstuffed bags.

If we all cut down our baggage weight by 25 per cent we'd save a massive 7537 tonnes of carbon dioxide going into the atmosphere each year.  This equates to taking 2,216 family cars off the road.
