Green help for small hotels

Small hotels wanting to go green are being given advice and practical help by a new service called the Travelife Sustainability System.

The system is supported by Thomas Cook and shows small hotels how to improve energy efficiency, control waste – and work more closely with local communities.

Thomas Cook is also working with The Travel Foundation, a British charity that helps to care for the natural environment, people and culture in holiday destinations. There are projects in countries as far apart as Turkey, Cyprus and The Gambia. Thomas Cook's sustainable tourism manager Jo Baddeley says: “The most inspiring project for me at the moment is the sponsorship of five female Turkish students studying a Tourism Degree at Mugla University.”
