Grupo Puntacana win a major environmental award.

Encouraging sustainable development in the eastern corner of the Dominican Republic has seen Grupo Puntacana win a major environmental award.

The Destination Stewardship prize is part of the Tourism for Tomorrow awards announced in Brazil this week. It was awarded in recognition of environmental and social development work being done by the company. The company has led the way in water harvesting and encouraged other hotels in the area to do the same.

Today, all hotel companies in the area collect and recycle water. Other initiatives range from alternative energy trials through to opening a public high school.
