Marriott wins green biz award
Marriott International has scooped a key eco business award at the World Travel & Tourism Council’s annual summit in Brazil.
The Tourism for Tomorrow Awards recognize the efforts made by travel companies to help the environment, make efficient use of resources and benefit local communities.
Awards organizer Susann Kreugal from the WTTC says Marriott won the Global Business Award because of its long-term commitment to the natural world and also to the people living around its hotels.
Last year the hotel chain announced a US$2 million scheme to protect a large tract of the Amazon rainforest.
Hotel president Ed Fuller says protecting fragile habitats and looking after people makes good business sense.
