Whale Watch Kaikoura at World Travel Market
Whale Watch Kaikoura in New Zealand's South Island takes visitors into the Pacific in search of the giant sperm whale. It's a community-led tourism project using specially-designed catamarans to minimise impact on the whales.
The Kaikoura sperm whales are the world's largest carnivores (each the size of four elephants). They dive up to two kilometres into the Kaikoura Canyonto hunt giant squid. Whale Watch Kaikoura boss Kauahi Ngapora says boats are likely to also spot humpbacks, blue whales, pilot whales and southern right whales, depending on the season.
