Hiking and biking the Eerie Canal
North America’s longest continuous cycling and hiking trail is being created as part of the restoration of the Eerie Canal.
Built to carry cargo from Albany to Buffalo, New York, the canal is becoming a recreational park for boating and outdoor holidays, says Peter Wiles Jr.
Speaking at a holiday fair, Peter says the Eerie was modeled on the canals of England and Wales. Yet when the Eerie canal towpath is fully open, it will stretch more than 350 miles – more than double the length of England’s Grand Union.
